Cabin air filter is located inside of car on the passenger side.
For 2000-2006 Toyota Rav 4 follow the next procedure:
First time you need to open the glovebox and realease the plastic arm from the right side of the glovebox like you see in the picture bellow.
Push both side of the glovebox to realease the stops and allow the glovebox to hang down (see picture bellow).
After you locate the cabin air filter housing cover pull the filter frame straight out from the housing, take out the old cabin air filter and install the new cabin air filter in the frame and slide the frame back in the house.
Push the glovebox back and reengage the plastic arm.
For 2006-2010 Toyota Rav 4 the procedure is the same. Only difference is the cabin air filter has no frame, is free in the housing (see in picture bellow).
Follow the same procedure to reassemble the cabin air filter and glovebox compartement.

l looked at the opening for the filter and came to the conclusion that the filter should be on the left side , even if it looks uneven then at the lower front , cos the lid has plastic plate triangles that will lift the front of filter when lid is closed, l think. so the filter will be close to the top , there the sides of the filter will come close to plastic surrounding it , it seems. …..on a yaris video l see the filter had the stiff plates sideways in the opening , not front and back like in rav videos, that is another possibility. the instructions on filterlocation are not very clear on how to turn the filter and should it be on the left or middle or what.
