Get ready to start
Make sure that you have a drain pan for the used oil, a funnel, sockets and the right type of oil and oil filter, according to the owner’s manual. You should wear gloves and eye protection glasses.
Replace the engine oil
- Open the hood and secure it in a raised position.
- Locate the oil drain plug underneath your Cutlass Ciera. Is located in the front side of your car.
- Put a drain pan under the oil drain plug.
- Loosen the oil drain plug.
- Use your hands to remove the oil drain plug and let the oil to drain. It should be drained completely.
- Wipe off the traces of oil from the oil drain and oil drain plug.
- Insert the plug back on. Do not force it, but don’t let it too loosen also.
Replace the oil filter
- Locate the oil filter: is located underneath the car, close to the oil drain plug.
- Slide the drain pan under the location of the oil filter.
- Remove the oil filter. You should turn it on counter clock wise.
- Drain the oil from the filter.
- Make sure that the O-ringdidn’t come off when you removed the old filter.
- Pour a small amount of oil in the new filter.
- Install the new oil filter.
Replace the engine oil
- Locate the oil fill cap.
- Remove the oil fill cap.
- Check the owner manual for the right quantity of oil.
- Use a funnel to add the new oil. Make sure you don’t pour too much.
- Insert the oil fill cap.
- Start the engine and check for leakages.
- Stop the engine and let it rest for some minutes.
- Use the dipstick to check the oil level.
Make sure you get ride of the used oil according to the law and having in mind the environment. Check the engine oil often. Insert supplementary oil if needed.
