Do it yourself, change the air filter on your Chevy Trailblazer. The replacement process described below is similar on Trailblazer models made in the years 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. In order to service the air filter on this car you will only require a big Phillips screwdriver.
Now, to get to the filter you will have to open the hood of the car and remove the lid of the air box, shown in the image below. The air box is located on the passenger’s side of the engine compartment and contains the air filter you need to replace.
You’ll be able to remove this lid using a big Phillips screwdriver, which you’ll use to undo the three screws shown in the picture below. After you get rid of the screws, the lid just pulls out.
By doing that, you will gain access to the air filter. Lift the air hose and pull out the filter. Clean the bottom of the air box for dirt, using a vacuum cleaner or a rag to do it. Then install the new air filter, place back the lid of the box and secure it with the three screws.
Why to service the air filter on your car? The air filter cleans the air that enters your engine. A clogged air filter can cause big damage to your system. So, if you check and service the air filter regularly, you ensure the longevity of your engine and avoid possible repair and replacement costs. If you leave the air filter to clog up, your engine will work harder to get enough clean air into the chamber. Attempting to pull air through the restricted filter can create a vacuum effect and it’s possible for particles to get sucked through and damage internal components. A dirty air filter can also increase the fuel consumption of your car and you may experience lack of power under hard acceleration, etc.
